The Heart Behind The Art: De’ja Boyd

Creative Roots & Silent Conversations

My journey with creativity didn't start at an easel; it started with my father. He was the most talented person I’ve ever known, and art was our shared language. We didn’t need words to connect—we had creativity and a mutual love for music. That foundation stayed with me, even when life took me in other directions.

The Storm That Changed Everything

I didn’t truly find my way back to painting until 2014, when a massive snow storm shut down my hometown. My mom pulled out canvases, acrylics, snacks, and sparkling grape juice, and for the first time in years, I let myself create.

In that moment, everything flowed. The anxiety, the overwhelming thoughts, and the weight I’d been carrying just vanished. It was just me and the art. Since that day, art has been my sanctuary. Whether months or years go by, I always return to the canvas when I need to release, explore, and breathe.

A New Chapter: Motherhood, Life, and the Canvas

Now that I’m a wife and a mother, the path back to my creative self hasn't always been easy to find—but I’m here.

My experiences as a hairstylist, personal trainer, and life coach have allowed me to interact with people on a soul level. I’ve seen the raw beauty in others, and those interactions fuel how I view the world and what I put onto the canvas. Using acrylics and oil pastels, I’m finally opening the doors to my inner self.

I am honored and grateful to share this hidden part of me with you. Thank you for being here and for seeing the world through my eyes.
